Is Velour Really Making A Comeback?

If you haven’t noticed already, it’s basically the Noughties all over again. The indestructible Nokia brick that you used to have as a kid is back, a new SNES literally just came out a few weeks ago, people are running around playing Pokémon, there’s a new Harry Potter book in stores, UGGs are once again a thing, and now, it looks like velour is making a comeback.

When New York Fashion Week made velour it’s biggest runway trend, it pretty much confirmed that the retro material was back from the dead. Celebs such as A$AP Ferg and Kendall Jenner loved it so much to the point that they actually stepped out dressed from top to toe in it. We know, we know, we don’t all have the balls (or the bank accounts) to rock a full velour outfit, so we’ve compiled a list of the pieces that you should probably cop if you want to ride 2018’s biggest trend. These won’t break the bank, but they sure as hell aren’t cheap as chips either.

Nike Plush Velour Pullover Hoody

Designed for sport and transformed for life, Nike has breathed new life into the humble sweatshirt with the Nike Plush Velour Pullover Hoody in a ‘Elemental Gold’ finish. Channelling the plush look of the retro material, this pullover hoody is draped in gold hues for the ultimate in sports luxury. A front pouch pocket also features for added convenience.

A.P.C. John Velour Shirt

The French brand is renowned for breathing a refreshing voice into the world of menswear each season, and the A.P.C. John Velour Shirt is certainly no different. Cut from pure cotton Italian velour, it is detailed simply with a single patch pocket to the chest. Button down fastenings to the cuffs offer this piece a timeless style.

adidas OS Velour Crew Sweat

An update to an athletic staple, adidas have delved into their archive to create the adidas OS Velour Crew Sweat. Once a fashion forward look for athletic and casual sportswear, this men’s sweatshirt brings back the iconic fabric but updates it with today’s modern cuts. Finished with a small embroidered graphic on the chest, this is a must cop piece.

Stüssy Trucker Jacket

A sleek and street-ready style, the Stüssy Trucker Jacket is cut from pure polyester velvet and is a luxe take on a reliable menswear staple. A total of four pockets and branded buttons kit this retro piece out – rendering it a go-to staple for many seasons to come. Pair with some black jeans and you’re good to go.

Stüssy Velour Hoody

Another piece from the Californian streetwear imprint, the Stüssy Velour Hoody is cut from a warming and relaxed velour, and is decorated with an embroidered signature logo to the chest and finished neatly with ribbed knits to its cuffs and hemline for a snug yet comfortable fit. Perfect for the colder months, this is a wardrobe staple.

adidas CLR84 Velour Tracktop

The velour design of the adidas CLR84 Velour Tracktop harkens back to the Three Stripes’ massive archive. Reviving the classic Challenger design, the clean lines, Trefoil chest logo, and engineered three stripes of this piece deliver an iconic look. While a high collar and ribbing at the cuffs and hem give it a comfortable edge.

A.P.C. Jeremie Velvet Sweater

The second offering from the French brand, the A.P.C. Jeremie Velvet Sweater is warm, textured, and imbued with minimalist luxury. Crafted from an Italian cotton velvet construction, this athletic staple is built with dimension and Parisian flair. Featuring a bound crewneck, cuffs, and hem, it’s pieces like these that make velour such a special material.

Edifice Velour Rib Blouson

And last but not least, we have the Edifice Velour Rib Blouson. Luxurious and extremely soft to the touch, this piece from the Japanese brand is sure to turn heads. Kitted out with a duo of subtle welt pockets, this warming style boasts elasticated ribbed knits to its collar, cuffs and hemline – details that ensure the optimum fit with every wear.
